Uniquely Wrapped

I am sure you have had an amazing  journey through uniquely wrapped gifts if you followed the hop to get here…if you just showed up to see what I was up to you will want to join the journey just follow the links below. So many fabulous ideas so little time!
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of my little wrap don’t forget you have the option of winning free ribbon! So, head over to the May Arts Blog to comment for your chance to win (when you are done here of course).

Uniquely wrapped gifts show how we love to gift OR that we have far too much time on our hands! I prefer the former. This was a fun assignment…. I once was a professional wrapper, it is far more fun to tell people that I was one then it is to write it, quick say it out loud…I am a professional wrapper, see know I sound really cool.  My kids tell people I was a professional wrapper and they get a great reaction from their peers and mom is a total hero…until the reality is explained.   I love to wrap gifts, I have some amazing wrapping skills and some amazing tricks up my sleeve for an almost seamless package (we will save that tutorial for later!). But todays wrapping we step outside of traditional wrapping.

Supplies
Red Tulle 3-inch, 471-3-14
Red Grosgrain 1.5-inch, QH-5-14
Kraft paper {I used a making paper you can find at the hardware store light weight and easy to tear into when it is time}

Cut 2 pieces of kraft paper to desired size. Place grosgrain ribbon across the top piece crossing in the center. Stitch together along 3 sides about ½ -inch from the edge.
Slide gift inside the pouch pushing to the far side and sew the final side together.

Create pom pom with  3-inch tulle and glue clip in place. Adding a pom that can be used as a hair clip or a pin is a great way to make you “bow” reusable. Pin to center of crossed ribbon and fluff pom.

And there it is.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your days crafting journey.

yardstick mini stars

What is more fun then cruising Pinterest for ideas and inspiration when you have a party to plan? My husband and I are in charge of planning a party for 250 people! So off we went on our Pinterest scavenger hunt. We found ideas for our menu, decor, photo spot props and how to stay calm in the chaos. I love to take an idea and make it fit my needs in this case I brought it down to a fifth the size.

Since hubby is a chef I advised on the menu but that and the kitchen prep is his domain. Mine is .... well everything else. I settled in on rustic chic for the decor because first it can be done on a dime and second it can be done with elegance and a little whimsy.

I love this yardstick star that Laura, from Finding Home made for InfarrantlyCreative.net last year.

http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/YardstickStarOutdoorChristmasDecorating_thumb.png

Beautiful right!

So how do you make this big beautiful star fit on a center piece? It goes a little something like this....

This is what you need to make 4:

5 yard sticks (about $1 a piece @ the hardware store)
Aluminum Pop Rivets 1/8" diameter with a 1/2" grip (unless you use thicker yard stick)
Popriveter (the thing which fastens the Rivets)
Drill with 1/8-inch drill bit
Saw (a handsaw with a miter box will work just fine but a compound miter saw is SO fast!)

1. Cut yard sticks into 8" segments and drill a hole at each end, centered and 1/2" from end.

2. Align the points and place rivet stick the ball end of the rivet through the holes with the stick end on the "right side" of your yard stick.

3. Place riveter on the on long end of rivet. Now simply squeeze the handles together till you hear a pop. The end of the stick should break free leaving you with a rounded head.

this is what the back side will look like.

So now all I have to do is decide on embellishments...ribbon? twine? twigs? we will see. But they will be going with the fabulously easy epson salt jars. I will get final pics and post next week after I recover from all the party prep and clean up.

You may have noticed that Laura used a screw and a nut to attach her star points which I highly recommend for the large star (much easier to store if you can disassemble it).  I chose to use rivets on the smaller ones so there were no sharpish scratchy edges just in case little hands wanted to grab at these stars.

kids craft hop

With all the little hands that will need to stay occupied this holiday season this hop is just what we need to be prepared to keep them busy. Kids of all sizes love to create their own Christmas ornaments. With a few supplies and a little imagination you will have the perfect holiday activity.

I raided my stash for this project didn't step foot outside my house...I figured if you are snowed in or need a project in a pinch that you may want to see what you have on hand to keep the natives from getting restless. This is what I came up with...

This is what I found:

ribbon (clearly I always have May Arts on hand)
Mini Pom Pom Ribbon
Twisted Burlap Ribbon
Grosgrain Ivory Striped Ribbon
5/8 inch Crocheted Ribbon
chipboard costers (came in a 4 pack from Michaels, had a rooster on them)
burlap paper  from DCWV (any scrap of burlap will probably due but this was already paper backed so it was easy to trace and cut out)
a bag of buttons (these where old shirt buttons, you know the ones you save because "someday"...well today is that ""someday!)
adhesive (used Tacky Glue and Ultimate Tacky Glue Stick)

Tools:

hole bunch - 1/8"
pencil
scissors

Here's How:

1. Trace coaster on burlap, cut 2 rounds.
2. Glue pom trim along back side edge of coaster. let dry.
3. Adhere burlap to front and back of coaster with glue stick.
4. Punch hole threw coaster about 1/4 inch from edge.
5. Pencil snowflake design onto burlap.
6. Glue Cream Twine in place, follow with buttons in desired design.
7. Thread Stripped ribbon threw hole. tie in knot and add Crocheted ribbon to finish.

Easy peasy! This would be cute with larger buttons ... Snowman? :)
