World Autism Awareness Day: Weighted Lap Fuzzy

Inspired by a service project I spotted online my original plan was a striped inch worm. As the project moved forward with these fabulous Cuddle fabrics by Shannon Fabrics they look more like a soft candy treats tied up with pretty ribbons by May Arts.
If you are not familiar in the value of weighted items for autism here is a little info I found that explains it perfectly:
"Weighted things like weighted blankets, weighted lap pads and weighted vests can be very calming for some children with autism. The weight provides calming proprioceptive input and many occupational therapists recommend appropriate weight for individuals with autism and sensory issues who can be overstimulated or anxious. Weight can also help some kids with autism or ADHD focus and pay attention in the classroom or during mealtime."
I will be using these myself as I filled them with rice and I can toss them in the freezer if I need a cold pack or the microwave if I need a hot pack. ;) I LOVE multi-fuctional items that are awesomely cute too.

  2. Love this idea.
Having the option of using them as hot or cold packs
is great. I often need one or the other and hat
to get the old ice cubes out - look tacky.
    thanks for the idea.

  4. What an inspiring idea! I personally like that you went with the candy motif because you are right. That's exactly what it looks like! Beautifully wrapped candies. I also like multifunctional things and that you are using them for ice and hot packs is brilliant. Very cool information on the value of weighted comfort items. I did not know that. Thanks! PS: Don't plug it in. ::giggle::

  5. These look so fun and interesting!
I didn't know about the weighted objects. My grandson has ADHD, so I'll have to mention this to my daughter.
