MayArts Holiday Hop - decoration

Joy
What a fun way to get in the Holiday Spirit each Friday till Christmas getting fun ideas to inspire and create. And a big bonus of the chance to win Two 5 yard rolls of Christmas ribbon from Ribbon Resource! Go tell them how much you love the JOY of Christmas, wink wink.

What you need:
Silk Ribbon 1.25 inch – 4 yards -taupe,2 yards- ivory
3 Inch Floral Lace w/ Scalloped Edge – ¾ yard - Ivory

Burlap, ¼ yard
Christmas Fabric, 1/8 yard
Cotton batting, ¼ yard
StazOn Midi - Ganache
Sponge
Freezer Paper
Thread
Needle
Iron
Electronic Cutter (I used Artistic Edge)
Sewing Machine (I used an Elna)
Small paint brush

Here’s what you do:

Make a burlap batting sandwich, burlap=bread batting=meat. (tip: using a basting spray keeps the layers together nicely while you cut and sew the pieces) Cut 3 triangle 8 ¼ wide by 9 ¼ tall.

1     Stitch around the edge of each triangle about ¼ inch from the edge. Add lace to top edge of pennant triangle with basting spray Stitch in place with a zigzag stitch.

1     Cut JOY from a piece of freezer using an electronic cutter. Place letters on pennant with and iron in place. Apply ink to burlap with sponge or sponge dauber in a pouncing motion. Peel away freezer paper mask.

Rip a 1 inch strip of holiday fabric. Gather and stitch to center of lace. Add silver chain cord to center of gathered fabric.

1    Brush iCraft® DECOFOIL Liquid Adhesive on to a few edges and ruffles, random is good we are just adding a little shine. Let adhesive dry till clear and tacky. Apply non shiny side of Deco Foil and burnish with pad of finger and peel away, a light distressed metallic is the goal.

Hand stitch pennant pieces together and tie cream silk ribbon into bow. Add side streamers.

Happy Sewing!
